Advancement
Advancement in Troop 70
Advancement in Troop 70 is intentional, supportive, and flexible. Whether your Scout wants to move quickly toward Eagle or take a steady, balanced approach, our programs are designed to help him succeed at every stage.
Trail to First Class
Our Trail to First Class (“TFC”) Program gives new Scouts a strong foundation in scouting knowledge, outdoor skills, physical fitness and cooking. Most Troop 70 Scouts achieve First Class rank within two years.
First Class to Life
Troop 70 supports Scouts advancing from First Class to Life by emphasizing leadership, service, and merit badge completion. Scouts earn required badges through troop instruction and council-sponsored classes. Leadership development is central: First Class Scouts serve as Den Chiefs, while Star and Life Scouts take on troop leadership roles. The troop actively organizes service opportunities to meet advancement requirements. As a boy-led troop, Scouts gain meaningful, hands-on leadership experience that prepares them for higher ranks and greater responsibility.
Life to Eagle
Troop 70 guides Life Scouts on the path to Eagle by providing individualized mentorship and structured support. Scouts complete remaining Eagle-required merit badges while developing and leading their Eagle Scout Project using the official Scouting America planning process. Our experienced leaders work closely with each Scout to review and strengthen project proposals to ensure they meet approval standards set by Circle Ten Council and the benefitted organization. Throughout the process, Scouts are expected to take full ownership and demonstrate leadership, while fellow troop members frequently volunteer to assist with project execution. This collaborative, Scout-led approach builds confidence, leadership, and accountability.
Eagle Project & Application Mentoring
Our experienced leaders work closely with Life Scouts to guide them through Eagle Scout service projects and the application process, ensuring they are well-prepared for this important milestone.
Council Merit Badge Programs
We encourage participation in programs offered through Circle Ten Council, giving Scouts access to a wide range of merit badge opportunities and expert instruction.
Merit Badge Opportunities at Meetings
We offer merit badge instruction during meetings to help Scouts make steady progress without overloading their schedules.
Meetings that Matter
Troop meetings are designed with purpose. TFC Scouts (Scout Rank through First Class) actively learn and practice the skills required for rank advancement through hands-on instruction and patrol-based activities.
Making Campouts Count
Campouts are where advancement comes to life. Scouts apply what they’ve learned -cooking, camping, navigation, and teamwork-while completing key requirements in a real outdoor environment.
