High Adventure in Troop 70:

High adventure is a cornerstone of the Troop 70 experience. These challenging, once-in-a-lifetime trips build leadership, resilience, and lifelong friendships. Our troop’s size allows more Scouts to participate in these premier programs.

Why High Adventure Matters:

High adventure pushes Scouts beyond their comfort zones and rewards them with unforgettable experiences. Whether hiking rugged terrain, sailing open water, or canoeing through the Atchafalaya Swamp, Scouts gain confidence and independence that stays with them for life.

Troop 70 regularly participates in some of Scouting’s most sought-after national programs. Here are our recent and future Treks:

June 7–13, 2026

Jack D. Furst Aquatic Base

We are fortunate to be located near the Jack D. Furst High Adventure Aquatics Base at Possum Kingdom Lake. Scouts have the opportunity to take several aquatics-oriented merit badges such as Small Boat Sailing, Advanced Sailing, Motorboating, Watersports, Rowing, Canoeing, Kayaking, Swimming, and Lifesaving. In fact, Scouts have their choice of over 50 merit badges and scouting awards at Camp Constantin.

July 21–31, 2026

National Scout Jamboree

A premier gathering of Scouts from across the country, featuring adventure, leadership, and innovation. Our Troop has been to every National Scout Jamboree since World War II and will be attending in 2026.

July 4–11, 2027

Philmont Scout Ranch

Backpacking through the mountains of New Mexico on a true wilderness expedition.

  • 2025 – Two Treks.
  • 2027 – One Trek currently planned.
May 29– June 3, 2027
July 26 – August 1, 2027

Florida Sea Base

Sailing, scuba diving, and ocean-based adventures in the Florida Keys.

  • 2025 – Two Treks (one sailing; one scuba).
  • 2027 – Two Treks currently planned (both sailing).

Atchafalaya Swamp Base

A one-of-a-kind trek through the Louisiana swamps, combining paddling, wilderness survival, and exploration. Talk about a confidence booster!
